As the reverse mortgage industry representative, in 2012 Ms. Paterson was appointed to Lt. Governor Prettner Solon’s “Own Your Future” advisory panel for guiding a statewide public awareness campaign to encourage Minnesotans to plan for the care they will need as they grow older as well as how to finance their long term care needs.

With the 2009 proposed Minnesota legislation, Ms. Paterson testified at all the hearings, met with the Assistant to the MN Attorney General and legislators, and provided proposed amendments with the protections the legislators are looking for yet not restrict the reverse mortgage lenders. She was instrumental in the bill being vetoed to protect seniors and not have a negative impact on the reverse mortgage industry.p

In addition, Ms. Paterson has presented to various care giving, community and professional groups including the Minneapolis and St. Paul Senior Workers Associations, Life Underwriter Training Counsel (LUTC), and All District Legal CLE. The Minnesota Foreclosure Prevention Association and other housing associations request Ms. Paterson teach their class on Reverse Mortgages. As well, Ms. Paterson served as a panelist for the Financing Long-Term Care in the 21st Century Conference co-sponsored by the Center on Aging, University of Minnesota and Minnesota Department of Human Services.  

Ms. Paterson has co-hosted, co-directed, and co-produced a metro cable TV show, Savvy Seniors… Talking With Experts About Senior Resources,  To go along with the show, she has published a resource guide, The Savvy Seniors Guide.

Ms. Paterson has volunteered as a Family Educator for Minnesota-Dakotas Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. She is actively involved as a leader in many organizations including the Minneapolis Area Senior Workers Association, St. Paul Senior Workers Association, Social Workers in Marketing (SWIM),Senior Issues Network, Washington County Senior Workers, Care Options Network and others. This includes Ms. Paterson having served on the Board of Directors for the Minneapolis Area Senior Workers Association and the Minnesota Center for Elder Abuse Prevention.

Ms. Paterson attended Purdue University although her education really came from the many life "Beth Paterson was so helpful when working on my Reverse Mortgage. She worked for various corporations in different industries prior to starting her own executive recruiting company. Her life was turned upside down as a result of being rear-ended in 1995. During her disability, Ms. Paterson found there are many resources available. She decided to use her experiences and help others faced with life’s challenges.

Ms. Paterson has worked hard to overcome her disability and return to enjoying her many hobbies and interests including sewing, quilting, jewelry making, crafts, gardening, biking, skiing, nature hikes, traveling, volunteering, antiquing, and dancing. Additionally, Ms. Paterson is enjoying spending her “free” time selling the many collectible dolls she has on ebay.
